In this inaugural episode of “Being Right with The Medicine” Isabel Interviews Ceremonial Chief Phillip Scott, who has been faithfully walking the Native Path, learning from, adopted by, and sanctioned by Indigenous Medicine and Holy people, tribal Spiritual leaders, Wisdom keepers, and Elders from several Nations and cultures. In this conversation, Chief Philip shares his thoughts and advice on how Western-trained psychedelic practitioners can learn from indigenous Elders to truly honor traditional and indigenous medicine practices, instead of appropriating knowledge and ways of working with The Medicine. This is the first in a series of conversations with indigenous and traditional elders, with the hope of educating Western-trained practitioners on how to respectfully and appropriately work with traditional techniques when exercising their craft.

The Foundation for Mind-Being Research (FMBR) was established in 1980 to assist in the creation of integrated models of human consciousness, models that encompass the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the human experience. The objective was to bring the then-new field of consciousness studies into wider recognition as a bona fide field of science, and to explore whether consciousness arises out of physical matter (i.e., the brain) or whether it is a state of matter unto itself. “Throughout the world, the prophesies from diverse cultures are being realized. The quickening – the acceleration of time in our lives and the insidious force of domestication – is contributing to the forgetting of our fundamental humanity. Our survival and those of our relations will depend upon the remembrance of how and what it means to be a human being upon the Earth, our Mother – knowledge Indigenous peoples continue to carry. Drawing upon Indigenous wisdom and practices, we explore, remember and cultivate the very nature of who we are, what we are here to accomplish and our legacy to the future generations. A Ceremony in honor of the Full Moon, conducted in a Traditional manner, is a part of the evening.”
